I found a real strange bug. A client of mine has two sites. One I host, the other is hosted by a 3th party. Now the client has a domain control panel for the other site and rerouted the other domain to the one I host, but the system just makes a frameset. Not real SEO, but okay. After a few days bug reports came in. Can not log in etc. Can only be the sessions? But after testing I found that the bug only appears in Internet Explorer (tested only 8) and only on the rerouted domain, not the one I host. Fix was easy. Just added a little javascript to break out of the top frameset and everyting was working again. I think it’s Microsoft’s Phishing filter that is kicking in, but have to test further.
Here’s my litte fix: :-)
if(top.frames.length){
top.location.href = self.location.href;
}
iPhone & Frustrations Daantje on 02 Sep 2009
Yes! My love is working again! I broke my touch screen last month and had to fall back on my Nokia 9300i. Not nice when you are used to an iPhone! After some calls to some iCenters and Apple stores, I found that it was not possible to fix my iPhone trough regular channels. After some googling I found a small company here in the Netherlands that was happy to send me a new screen for €49,- excl. €7,- shipping. So I ordered one and within two days I had my screen! Best service ever! So if some part of your iPhone is broken, check this site for parts: www.ipod-service.nl The company can fix your phone too, if you want to send your iPhone to them, so give them an e-mail if you have questions! Real nice people!

IE6 is an hell, I’ve posted this more than ones, but now there is a new online campaign, that tries to move the current IE6 users to upgrade there browser. savethedevelopers.org I’ve added the little simple javascript line to my site, to help all MSIE 6 users to upgrade to a better browser. IE6 is a hell for developers, so more and more developers are skipping the ie6 compatibility. I do! I just leave the non working features out for IE6 browsers… When you have a IE7, Firefox, Safari or Opera, the features will work fine. So please, help to save the developers and upgrade your IE6!

So, I start with this; please don’t use MSIE 6.0, it is a disaster for web developers! Now, this is what I ran in to last night, a bug in MSIE 6.0. Every item with a transparent PNG as background image, done with the CSS hack/workaround (AlphaImageLoader filter) and the sizingMethod set to scale, all the child objects are locked. Nothing works anymore! No more forms, no more hrefs, no text select, no nothing… I spend 5 hours last night searching the web to solve this problem! (Send the bill to Bill?)
The solution is, or rather the bug is: When the width OR height of the dimensions of the transparent 24bits PNG image is less than 64 pixels, and the sizingMethod set to scale, the bug appears.
If that is not a bug… Please remove all your copies of MSIE 6.x and use a more developer friendly browser like Firefox. Or if you feel the need, upgrade to msie 7.0. IE 6 is a developer nightmare!

I hate those windows machines more every day! Keep your machines up to date! And run firewalls! So you can control your outgoing ports on local machines. Now some poor sole on the ktwaalre.nl network is infected and is spamming people I don’t even know that I have a new email. Ofcourse with the virus attached; "mailtext.zip". I don’t have a new email, mine is still me at daantje dot nl. Please, keep your virus scanners UP TO DATE! We mac and *nix users can not be bored with the problems of Microsoft! Please Bill, loose the closed source stuff, let the community take a look at it and fix the stuff!! Two know more than one!

I like my Mac, the only thing is the iSync app! Apple did everything to the OS to make it realy nice to work with. But when you have a PDA with linux or windows you have a problem syncing it. I have KDE installed, compiled every sync app I could find, but still no luck! Yes with Pocket PC it worked, but I had to buy the missing-sync app. And every nice tool I wanted, is also not available in GPL or freeware. So back to Opie. Again the sync problem… Why is .Mac only SyncML compatible an not free?! Why? Why?! Apple’s Xcode tools includes stuff to build new plugins for other devices, only Cocoa is not my thing… (Any volunteers?) Now found a few possibilities to make my own sync tool. I found out that Opie runs a Qtopia FTP server on port 4242. It’s GPL, so all the commands are in the source ;) Just search for "FTP SERVICE COMMANDS". Opie saves everything in xml. Only I didn’t found the description/reference yet. But it could be backwards engineerd. Apple’s iCal saves standard iCalendar format and can be used in every programming language. Now I know PHP, and this is all do-able with PHP ;) And it’s standard on every Mac OS X box. Just get the datebook.xml from Opie’s FTP and read it into an array. Do the same with the .ics file from the Mac (more work, but again it can be done). Than make a routine that matches/merge the two array’s. That write 2 files again from the merged array and write them back the same way they’ve come. My only consern is the memory the array’s consume. I need a backend. MySQL rules, but isn’t standard. Maybe XML is an option, but slow. (Any ideas are welcome.) As frontend I can use a simple AppleScript app with only one button ‘iFinalySyncOpie’… When this all works, I should thake a look how this can be done with the Addressbook and the notes… And than maybe rewrite it in Java and make a nice frontend. If somebody knows a goodway to sync Opie with Apple’s iCal and Addressbook, please drop me at daantje dot nl a email. Mind the at and dot ;)
