I wrote this little PHP script for a friend of mine. He needed to redirect to a xhtml page when a user with a mobile device (internet capable PDA or phone) connected to his homepage. This script is very easy to implement… Just put it at the top of your first index.php file. When a user connects, this script will check the user agent (browser) and when a trigger is present, it will redirect. Hope it helps someone… Have fun.

I’ve got a brand new iPod (European version, 20Gb). But here in europe all the iPods have a limiter on it… It’s a dumb european law. Here’s a great tool to get rid of the limiter!! I’ve set it to boost the volume with 50% and now my neighbours are complaining about the music! ;)

I’ve installed Debian unstable on an iMac (PowerPC). I will upload my configuration files of XFree and my kernel here. I’ve used the ‘jigdo-lite’ application to master a Debian-non-us (woody) installer iso for the ppc. It worked very easy! Than I altered the /etc/apt/sources.list to the unstable sources, did an apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade and after a hour I had Debian Sid running on it! I had some difficulties configuring my Firewire LaCie DVD wirter, but it’s working now. You must apt-get install hotplug and compile the sbp2 and enable ieee1394 in the kernel to make it work. Did not get it to work with dvdrecord. I use ‘dvd+rw-tools’ instead. I use the 2.4.25 kernel on it now.

It is possible to run MacOS-X within a Linux or Windows desktop, by running this PPC emulator. I’ve tested it under Debian (sid) and it works great. Check it! PearPC is great! And open source! Why buy expensive emulators when you’ve got better GPL-ed ones?

I found a better solution for OpenOffice on MacOS-X. This is also OpenOffice only it runs native on the mac. The project is called ‘NeoOffice/J‘. It now still is a beta version, but it runs realy nice and you don’t need X11 to run it! Try it when you need office and/or excell. It’s free, naturaly ;)

I found the port of Wine for MacOS-X named ‘Darwine‘. I’m going to test it and will provide more info later on…

Here’s something cool! Here’s a project to run the linux kernel and software on your iPOD. Read the FAQ! You’ll still be able to reboot the iPOD to run the original mac software. It’s a real cool project! All you linux lovers, try it!

It’s so easy! Make an image of 16 x 16 pixels, 256 colors and save it as an GIF, BMP or any other format. (I saved it as an GIF file) Open the image in ‘GraphicsConverter’ from your applications folder. Save the image as a Windows Icon (.ICO) file and your done. Use the following HTML tag in yout page:

This realy works like a charm! Download and install this driver on the mac. Reboot the Mac. Now go to your ‘System Preferences’ and than ‘Network’. Now the Mac should say something about a new interface he found (en2 in my case). Add the just found port. Now it should appear as an Ethernet Adaptor. Choose it and change the IP configuration to manual and use these settings:

IP address: 192.168.0.200
subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
router: 192.168.0.200

Click the ‘apply’ button. Now to share the Internet connection you should go to the main preferences panel and click the ‘Sharing’ icon. Click the ‘internet’ tab and sat the ’share your internet connection’ to the device where your internet is connected to, in my case ‘Airport’ and set the ‘To computers using:’ to the ‘Ethernet Adaptor (en2)’. Hit start. Now your done. These settings are based on the standard settings of Opie 1.x. More info coming later.

I’ve got it working… finaly… What I did was editing ‘/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc’ and put in this:

Started Xdarwin in ‘full screen‘ mode and whoopy, it’s starting a KDE desktop… I hope my quanta is now more stable than under OroborOSX and rootless Xdarwin. My quanta crashes after scrolling pages. Don’t know what the problem is. Trying everything…

Update: This works like a charm! Got native KDE 3.5 running right now!
