GPE or Opie?

I’ve reseaved several emails about what works on witch windowmanager. If you want GTK apps on your handheld, you should consider GPE. This desktop is based on the Gnome environment. In the ipkg feed you’ll find php-gtk (make your own apps) and snes9x (gameboy snes emulator), witch ore not in the opie ipkg feed. Apache, mysqld and php4 are in both feeds. On GPE I still don’t have my irda working. GPE is still in development and there are only pre-releases. So sometimes things are broken and you’ll have to google to solve it. I like the clean and fast interface. Apps and libs are smaler than the Opie variants. Now I’ve installed Opie 1 and everything works right out of the box! Irda, bluetooth, CFcards, everything! I only have troubles with my 128 Mb MMcard. I think that it needs to be formatted on a desktop machine with a card reader, cause I see the card, but I still don’t have /proc/mm stats. I’m going to figure this out i hope ;)Conclusion: If you want to use your handheld with every feature, and your not realy a developer or gamer, install Opie. When you want to develop your own apps or you want to use it as an expensive gameboy, install GPE.
